The Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy

Is a logical fallacy based on a metaphor of a Texas gunslinger shooting the side of a barn and then painting his target around the largest cluster of bullet-holes.

Doing this is selecting a subsection of data (bulletholes) and painting the target in a way that makes it appear the gunslinger hit his target.

This is an important concept to understand because data can be manipulated in many ways to tell many different narratives.

If you understand when the target was painted you can better identify logical fallacies in the theories.
