"Process saves us from the poverty of intentions"
- Elizabeth King, American sculptor, and writer.
This quote resonates with me because what it is saying is every day you wake up you are not going to want to do the things you set out or intend to do with your life.
If you are planning to run a marathon there are going to be days that you wake up and do not feel like running today. The decision though was already made. If you are someone who runs marathons, if you believe this image of yourself you have crafted in your head then the decision is made that every day you run.
You need to make these decisions on the macro level. There is no debate the decision was already made.
Once made they remove the temptations or doubts that creep in on the micro level.
I teach and coach salespeople and this lesson apply aptly to the daily grind of cold calling.
How many days do you think someone wants to make cold calls day in and day out rejection after rejection?
But if you have already made the macro decision that you are a person who sells widgets then the micro decision of "do I feel like making this next cold call" is removed. Of course, the answer is yes, but this is what top-performing sales reps do.
This lesson also ties in nicely with the 40% rule. Combined these two hacks or tricks can help you accomplish more than you thought was possible.
